2017 Annual Conference Student Activities

To ensure inclusion on signs and in the Annual Conference program, sponsorship must be completed by September 18, 2017.



Several activities are planned for Monday to get students involved in the Annual Conference and to introduce them to NC AWWAWEA. For more information on Annual Conference Student Activities, and to register, please contact Catherine McMillan, Black & Veatch, at (919) 463-3029 or

  • FREE Monday Only Registration for Students
  • Student Poster Contest
    Students involved in research related to environmental or water resources topics are encouraged to present their work in the Student Poster Contest. The poster contest will take place on Monday, November13, 2017 with posters displayed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students should plan to be available for poster presentation and judging from 1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Monetary prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place posters. The first place winner will also be awarded the opportunity to present their poster at the National AWWA ACE conference in 2018!

    Entries must be from students currently enrolled in a post secondary school on a full time basis with a course of study including environmental and water resources topics – such as water treatment, wastewater treatment, collection & distribution, policy & management, and special topics (industrial treatment, laboratory, stormwater, & other related water quality topics). A rules packet will be sent to interested students upon receipt of this form. 


    Interested students should submit the form on page 7 of the Annual Conference brochure by October 31, 2017.

  • Student & Young Professional Lounge
    Visit us in our reserved lounge to relax, put your backpacks down, and talk to your peers.
  • Student Lunch: Make connections with other students and industry professionals during a reserved lunch on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. This is a great time to discuss the conference, career paths, and NC AWWA-WEA membership.
  • Young Professional Technical Session: This new technical session track is designed to provide students and young professionals with an overview of a broad range of topics within the water and wastewater industry and to give students and young professionals the opportunity to present in a comfortable atmosphere.
  • Service Project: The NC AWWA-WEA Students & Young Professionals Committee will be collecting gently used business and professional clothing to aid less fortunate individuals seeking employment in the Raleigh and Charlotte areas. Women’s clothing and accessories will be donated to Dress For Success in Raleigh, and Men’s clothing and learning center needs will be donated to the Charlotte Rescue Mission.

    SYP committee members will be available to accept your donations at their committee table on Monday & Tuesday. Committee tables will be located on the 2nd floor mezzanine of the Raleigh Convention Center - near the entrance to the exhibit hall. See a list of what items are needed.
