Starting in 2007, we no longer published Newsleaks. Instead, we are working with Craig Kelman & Associates to publish a professional magazine entitled NC Currents. We will continue to mail this publication to our membership, as well as post current and past issues on this web site.

NC Currents is the official publication of the NC AWWA-WEA. Members, individuals and committees are encouraged to submit content for the magazine. If you would like to submit an article to be considered for publication in NC Currents please complete the NC Currents Submission Form & Publication Agreement and email it along with your submission to Nicole Banks at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . See below for Submission Guidelines.

NC Currents Publication Schedule & Content Guide

 Winter 2010
Submission deadline September 27, 2010

Plant Operations & Maintenance
Plant Operations & Maintenance is an area critical to the sustainability of our water and wastewater treatment plants. To support this important need, NC AWWA-WEA has developed a voluntary Maintenance Technician certification program that has had an outstanding response. To further discussion of the issue, NC Currents is soliciting articles on a wide range of operation and maintenance topics and wants to hear from municipal staff, consulting engineers and vendors. Everything from design criteria for better operations to unique operational methodologies that make plant operations more cost efficient or green in general. Don’t miss an opportunity to let the others know how you are dealing with or assisting our industry on this important subject.

Spring 2010
Submission deadline early January 2011

Succession Planning - Workforce Issues
Do you know how many members of your department or work unit are retiring in the next five years?  Are you one of them?  Where are we in the Water/Wastewater industry going to find “the Replacements?”  What are you doing to develop your junior and/or new employees so that they are positioned to assume new responsibilities and YOUR JOB?  The spring issue of NC Currents will focus on planning efforts and successful programs that members of our industry are implementing to ensure the workforce of tomorrow.  Please submit your articles describing recruitment, retention, workforce development, knowledge retention and succession planning.

Summer 2011
Submission deadline early April 2011

Buried Assets

Themes will include managing hidden (underground) assets; staying ahead of failing underground infrastructure; constructing, replacing, and/or rehabilitating underground infrastructure in an increasingly urban environment; condition assessment of underground utilities; and other topics associated with buried assets.
