Collection & Distribution School Committee

This committee is responsible for the Collection & Distribution Schools.



  • Plan and carry out all duties required for the establishment of annual schools for Collection, Distribution, Backflow/Cross Connection, and Meter.
  • Develop curricula in the disciplines of meter repair and testing, water distribution, wastewater collections, and back-flow/cross-connection as required supporting the educational goals identified in the current Needs to Know.
  • Endeavor to offer quality training and education and to provide support to the Board of Education and Examiners to improve the certification program.

  • The Committee should be composed of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, the NC AWWA-WEA Administrative Assistant, the Association’s Executive Director, and the Association Trustee assigned as the Committee’s Board liaison. Other committee members should include the instructors and coordinators of the school activities, and State regulatory agencies.
  • The Chair of the committee shall be appointed by the NC AWWA-WEA Board Chair. Those individuals deemed most knowledgeable and capable of assisting in all activities of the school shall be given first consideration for appointment.
  • Preference for appointment to Chair shall be given to the Vice-Chair or other individuals that have served at least two years as a committee member prior to appointment.
  • The Chair shall be appointed as a first order of business of the NC AWWA-WEA Chair after taking office and the term shall be for two years.  The Chair shall be limited to two consecutive terms.
  • The Committee Chair shall appoint the Vice-Chair, the Secretary and coordinators as a first order business at the first Committee meeting following their appointment.
  •  It shall be the responsibility of the Chair to call all meetings and to conduct the business of establishing the school for the current year.
  • The initial Committee meeting should be set immediately following the Annual meeting of the Association and following that, at least two other planning sessions should be held.
  • The committee shall establish sub-committees as needed on a temporary, or standing basis to oversee any specific area of responsibility where greater detailed work is required in order to more effectively carry out the committee’s purpose. The sub-committee chair will be appointed by and report back to the committee chair as to the goals and work they are performing, and make recommendations as appropriate from time to time to assure that the overall goals and purposes of the school committee are met. Primary Activities

  • Coordination of the school advertisements through the NC AWWA-WEA Administrative Assistant, Executive Director, Committee Chair, and officials of the appropriate school approximately three months prior to the date of the school.
  • Develop organized Curriculum and class schedules in conjunction with the various coordinators and instructors at least six weeks prior to the school.
  • Preparation and communication of detailed information needed by the instructors in regards to the operation of the school.
  • Initial planning will require the establishment of school dates, setting of course fees, and making provisions for all publicity.
  • School specific planning will require the arrangements for the student banquet facilities and menu, the instructor’s dinner facilities and menu, as well as arranging for the instructors needed for the school.
